Conductive Thread - 234/34 4ply

Conductive Thread - 234/34 4ply

Conductive thread is a creative way to connect various electronics onto clothing. This thread can carry current for power and signals. While not as conductive as traces on a printed circuit board (PCB), this thread makes wearable clothing 'wearable'!
More Details

Sparkfun worked with their supplier to change how to thread is manufactured to decrease the fray-resistance. This new thread is more expensive but the quality and the fray-resistance has increased significantly. Now you can worry less about short circuits and worry more about your project.

This is a thicker thread with a lower resistance that can be used with hand sewing. Resistance is about 14 Ohms per foot. Spool contains 1oz of thread, about 75 yards.

Flex Sensor 4.5\"

Flex Sensor 4.5"

A simple flex sensor 4.5" in length. As the sensor is flexed, the resistance across the sensor increases. Patented technology by Spectra Symbol - they claim these sensors were used in the original Nintendo Power Glove.
More Details

The resistance of the flex sensor changes when the metal pads are on the outside of the bend (text on inside of bend).

Straight (unflexed) resistance: ~9000 Ohm
90 degree bend resistance: ~14000 Ohm
180 degree bend resistance : ~22000 Ohm

Connector is 0.1" spaced and bread board friendly.

Serial Servo Controller

Serial Servo Controller

The Pololu micro serial servo controller (SSC) is a very compact solution for controlling up to eight RC servos from a computer or microcontroller. Each servo speed and range can be controlled independently and multiple units can be daisy-chained on one serial line to control up to 128 servos. Three status LEDs and an integrated level converter for RS-232 applications get you up and running quickly. The micro serial servo controller is dwarfed by even a standard servo, but it can control any standard RC servos, including giant 1/4-scale servos.
More Details

This servo controller supports two separate communication protocols. One protocol is compatible with our other serial servo controllers and our serial motor controllers, and it offers individual range and speed control for each servo. This servo controller is also compatible with the Scott Edwards MiniSSC II servo controller and any software written for it.

The back side of the board has all of the ports labeled, and two mounting holes allow you to secure the controller to your project. The logic supply and the servo supply can be tied together for single-battery operation, or the on-board voltage regulator allows the logic supply to be as high as 16V.

Features:

* 8 servo ports
* 0.5us (about 0.05 degrees) resolution
* 250-2750 us range
* 5-16VDC Logic supply
* 0-5VDC Data voltage
* 50Hz pulse rate
* 1200-38400 (auto detected) serial baud rate
* 5mA average current

AVR Stick

AVR Stick

The AVR Stick is a simple data logging device that instantiates itself as an HID keyboard and reports the voltages, along with a 'timestamp,' from two pins on an ATtiny85. The device uses open source firmware availabe from Objective Development (http://www.obdev.at/vusb/) called V-USB to implement the USB 1.1 standard. The code that runs the application was based on the EasyLogger example application from Objective development.
More Details

The default firmware runs simply enough: plug it in to a USB port on your computer, after the computer recognizes the device as a keyboard it will automatically start reporting the voltages. To get a series of measurements, open up a text or spreadsheet editor and plug the AVR stick in. The AVR Stick will automatically start inputting the voltage values to whatever program is active on the computer. The ADC is configured to use a 2.56V reference voltage, so don't try measuring anything higher than that without modifying the code!

This thing is meant to be hacked! Visit the Objective Development website to learn how others have used the USB stack to implement miscellaneous HID projects like keyboards, mice, joysticks, etc., etc., etc...

LilyPad Bobbin

LilyPad Bobbin

This is dual-purpose bobbin with 10ft of high quality 4-ply conductive thread. Once the thread is gone, the bobbin doubles as a small LilyPad Protoboard. We created this small bobbin to help people get into wearable electronics without the upfront cost of buying an entire spool of thread. 10 feet of thread is enough to get a simple design stitched onto your shirt, backpack or hat.
